Phil Bonner's overheating Thunderbolt has stalled. The 14.0:1 pistons in its 427 High Riser are not happy on this muggy June day as steam slowly hisses from the filler neck of the lightweight aluminum radiator. We're inside the locked gates of Ford's Dearborn proving grounds as Bonner and a select group of helpers do their best to restart the potent 427. It's a tall order, but all put their backs into hefting the 3,200-pound Fairlane-Bonner included-as repeated efforts are made to push-start the exotic wonder weapon by popping the clutch from a 10-mph roll.

The Record Run
Here's Mike with the details on his record run: "The trip to Valdosta couldn't have come at a worse point in the year. I was on a skeleton crew due to scheduling conflicts with my partner, Bart Lemieux, and crewmembers, Larry Larson, Adam Wyatt, Bob Stark, Matt Tret, and Matt Grawberg. Due to everyone's schedule, we only had time for one day at the track and made only six attempts at a pass and only one full WOT run that day.
Making old racers change their ways isn't always easy, as Kevin Triplett learned. Kevin began his career by creating a couple of cars for quick resale at the budding Barrett-Jackson auction back in 2003. Taking note of the adrenaline-fueled bidding fury and occasionally overinflated selling prices, Kevin knew a good opportunity to launch a career when he saw one, and by 2005, he was hauling 12 cars to the Scottsdale, Arizona, auction.
Long Minnesota winters give a man time to ponder-sometimes too much time, as Greg and Linda Peterson found out. What began as a driver mushroomed into a full-blown buildup. Jason Rushforth doodled an idea for the '64 Buick Sportswagon, and Greg decided it would make an excellent calling card for his company, Extreme Powder Coating (www.extremepowdercoating.net). His next three winters were occupied stripping the chassis and powdercoating a few hundred parts. The car was shaved of handles and trim and dropped with Heidts 2-inch-drop spindles and a complete Air Ride system with Strong Arms and RidePro controls. Perhaps inspired by those frigid winter days, the color palette is an icy '67 Ford Brittany Blue with snowy '07 Lexus Pearl White capping the roof.
